Transparency

As stated in its Founding Regulation, ECDC was established to provide the European Union with independent advice on threats to human health posed by communicable disease. As a publicly funded EU agency, ECDC works to ensure it is open and transparent about its operations and funding. ECDC has adopted an Independence Policy describing how independence, both in scientific advice and the day-to-day operations of ECDC, is to be maintained.

Independence Policy

ECDC's Draft Independence Policy states that Annual Declarations of Interest and Declarations of Commitment from the director, members of the Management Board and Advisory Forum, members of the Senior Management Team and Heads of Disease Programmes will be published online.

Declarations made by ECDC staff members and experts involved in the work of ECDC  may be disclosed, in accordance with Regulation (EC) No 1049/2001 of the European Parliament and of the Council of 30 May 2001 regarding public access to European Parliament, Council and Commission documents.
