This section is devoted to supporting public health microbiology in the European Union.
The mission of ECDC is to identify, assess and communicate current and emerging threats to human health from communicable diseases. All ECDC activities, including scientific advice, surveillance, threat detection, preparedness, response, and communication involve microbiological activities.
In particular, public health microbiological services are crucial to implement an efficient surveillance system and improve threat detection capacities. ECDC does not have a microbiological laboratory capacity of its own and relies on high quality microbiological laboratory service for successful implementation of its duties.
These pages provide a platform for exchange of information among the public health microbiology community in EU, a one-stop-shop for microbiology-related resources and is aimed to become an interactive forum for exchange of thoughts and ideas among microbiologists.
