 Surveillance Atlas of Infectious Diseases

 About the Surveillance Atlas

The Surveillance Atlas of Infectious Diseases is a web-based tool for easy access to European infectious disease surveillance data. It aims at improving availability and accessibility of data, providing it in a user-friendly way (maps, diagrams, time series, distributions, tables). Indicators are set individually for each disease to ensure better information for action in the prevention and control of infectious diseases. You can search information by disease, region or period. Currently the Atlas contains information on tuberculosis, invasive Haemophilus influenzae disease, invasive meningococcal disease, measles and rubella; additional diseases will be added gradually.

 About the data

All information on reported cases of notifiable infectious diseases are collected from EU/EEA Member States (except for Switzerland and Liechtenstein) through the European surveillance system (TESSy), a system for collection, analysis and dissemination of data on communicable diseases, onto which all EU Member States and EEA countries uploated their data. Population denominator data come from Eurostat or are reported by Member States, if their surveillance systems only cover part of the population.

 Using the data

Data and illustrations can be downloaded using the export icon. If used in a subsequent publication, ECDC should be credited in the relevant parts of the publication with the following quote: “Source: ECDC surveillance atlas of infectious diseases, [date of extraction]”. For more information on ECDC policy for surveillance data access and publication, please read the TESSy data access policy.  EU/EEA surveillance data cannot be interpreted without understanding their limitations and the differences across national surveillance systems. Some of this information can be found by clicking the “i” icon in the top right corner.

Help us improve the Surveillance Atlas

This version of the Surveillance Atlas features data for a subset of diseases. Data on more diseases will be made available over time. Do have any comments or suggestions? Let us know what you think about ECDC's new tool.
