Programme on HIV, AIDS, STIs and viral hepatitis

The programme covers:

ECDC collaborates with experts in the EU/EEA Member States, the European Commission, the European Monitoring Centre for Drugs and Drug Addiction (EMCDDA), the WHO Regional Office for Europe, UNAIDS and non-governmental organisations like the EU Civil Society Forum on HIV/AIDS.

The Programme aims to support European Bodies and Member States in the areas of surveillance and epidemiology, monitoring and evaluation of public health programmes and scientific guidance by:
  • Further strengthening STI, HIV/AIDS and hepatitis B and C surveillance in Europe;
  • Developing robust programme monitoring framework to monitor the implementation of prevention and control programmes at national and international levels;
  • Providing evidence-based guidance for key prevention interventions and promote public health programmes that reduce health inequalities;
  • Monitoring the implementation of the EU Communication and Action Plan on HIV/AIDS in the EU and Neighbouring Countries.
