Technical Advisory Committee workshop on Africa CDC’s Public Health Emergency Fellowship
ECDC is a member of the Technical Advisory Committee of the Fellowship programme, and this was the first planning workshop to validate the foundational documents of the Fellowship including programme governance and structure, curriculum, and training content
Africa CDC recently launched a continental Public Health Emergency Management (PHEM) Fellowship programme in Africa. The programme has been envisioned as a critical source of skilled mid-career workforce to set up and manage emergency preparedness and response programmes, with particular focus on the management of public health emergency operations centres (PHEOCs). The Fellowship represents a significant milestone in line with the 2022 call-to-action by African Union heads of state for increased investment in PHEOCs as a critical component of the health security discourse.
The objectives of the Fellowship are to empower fellows with knowledge and practice in public health emergency management; to provide fellows in-depth exposure to the role of PHEOCs in preparing for, responding to and recovering from various public health emergencies; and to equip fellows with the core competencies required to initiate and lead the implementation of emergency management programmes.
