Dr Isaac Weisfuse Presentation to ECDC on Outbreak of Influenza A(H1N1)v in New York

ECDC hosts Dr Isaac Weisfuse, Deputy Commissioner of the Division of Disease Control of the New York City Department of Health and Mental Hygiene.

The presentation focus on how the public health authorities responded to the outbreak of Influenza A(H1N1)v in New York City and is part of ECDC efforts to promote learning processes based on international practice. Dr Weisfuse holds an academic position at Columbia University and is Associate Professor of Clinical Public Health of Epidemiology at Mailman School of Public Health.

Commissioner Vassiliou visits ECDC’s headquarters
30 June 2008

Commissioner for Health Androulla Vassiliou visited the ECDC’s headquarters in Stockholm on 30 June, 2008. The programme included a meeting with the senior management team, a briefing on ECDC’s latest developments as well as a tour of ECDC’s Emergency Operations Centre which was recently opened.
ECDC Director, Zsuzsanna Jakab, said that she was delighted to welcome Commissioner Vassiliou to the Centre.

Strengthening EU preparedness against epidemics: Dr. Ouzký MEP opens Emergency Operations Centre at ECDC
4 March 2008

Europe’s preparedness against epidemics received a boost on 4 March with the official opening of a state-of-the-art Emergency Operations Centre (EOC) at the EU’s disease prevention and control agency, ECDC. The EOC provides ECDC with the tools it needs to link to its key partners and to monitor developments as they occur 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. The inauguration ceremony at ECDC headquarters in Stockholm was attended by representatives of the European Commission, the European Parliament and EU Member States. Dr. Miroslav Ouzký MEP, Chairman of the European Parliament’s Environment and Public Health Committee was guest of honour and formally inaugurated the EOC.
