A communication toolkit is a set of customisable communication tools that allow health bodies and organisations to easily adapt them in order to develop their communication campaigns.
The aim of a toolkit is to provide high quality customisable material that can have a real impact on defined priority audiences (general public, diseases risk groups, healthcare workers, etc.), raise awareness on prevention of specific communicable diseases and trigger the desired change in their behaviour (vaccine uptake, implementation of specific hygiene measures, etc.).
A toolkit consists of a number of communication products and, depending on the needs, includes a large variety of tools covering different channels (print publications, social media, audiovisual, web-based tools, material for the press as well as strategic guidelines).
Communication toolkits can have a significant added value both at communication and economic level. National budgets in the health sector have been constantly reduced during the past years. Customisable tools can greatly reduce the costs of communication campaigns of health bodies and organisations and help spreading common and coherent messages throughout the EU.
ECDC constantly monitor health communication activities in Europe and around the world with the view to support national health bodies and organisations in their communication efforts.
