Epidemiology and Microbiology for facilitators

This course will introduce supervisors to the methods used to  teach field epidemiology through two types of activities. First, mornings will be dedicated to the interactive presentation / discussion of the instructional design / pedagogical aspects of the seven tracks of the introductory course including (1) public health microbiology, (2) Surveillance, (3) outbreak investigation, (4) statistics, (5) analytical epidemiology, (6) research and (7) communication. Second, afternoon will be dedicated to the introduction to the case studies and specific group work activities. In addition, a separate activity on Friday morning will orient them to EPIET standard Operating Practices (SOPs)so that they can function as site supervisors.

 

Objectives:
At the end of the preparatory week of the introductory course, the supervisors will be able to:
1. Present plans to coordinate learning activities for each track of activities
2. Facilitate case studies through mastering (1) subject matter issues to be taught and (2) facilitation technique
3. Follow EPIET SOPs as site supervisors

Teaching methods included
1. Group discussions around the instructional design and lesson plans
2. Real life simulation techniques for each case studies
3. Briefing regarding SOPs
