ECDC will host observers from the European Society of Clinical Microbiology and Infectious Diseases (ESCMID) and the European Society for Clinical Virology (ESCV) for a week-long programme of seminars, activities and events under the ECDC Observership programme.
The ECDC Observership programme offers up to 15 early and mid-career scientists the opportunity to visit ECDC in Stockholm each year and learn about the activities of the Centre, share knowledge and experiences and engage with other observers and ECDC experts. Application, selection and funding for the Observership visits are provided by the two supporting societies, ESCMID and ESCV.
The main objectives of the ECDC Observership programme are:
- to increase understanding of the European public health roles and responsibilities of ECDC in supporting infectious disease prevention and control and the interplay with expert and competent bodies in the Member States;
- to familiarise observers with EU surveillance and epidemic intelligence systems and the Public Health Microbiology Programme;
- to raise awareness of ECDC’s key outputs, such as risk assessment, scientific advice, support to laboratory network activities, and others, and the way they are produced.
More information, including application information and reports of previous Observership visits, is available via the ESCMID and ESCV websites:
