ECDC organised this workshop to map training resources and identify needs in the area of communicable disease surveillance and control in EU candidate countries and potential candidates. Sixteen representatives from eight countries participated.

Outcomes for participants included identifying priorities and drawing up country specific action plans, and for ECDC more clarity in work priorities for the EU enlargement countries. Future steps include introductory courses on applied epidemiology and country visits.
