From 3 to 9 March 2013, ECDC monitored several on-going public health threats within and outside the European Union.
From 3 to 9 March 2013, ECDC monitored several on-going public health threats within and outside the European Union. On 8 March 2013, the Health Protection Agency in the United Kingdom reported an additional fatal case of anthrax in Suffolk, England. Influenza activity remained substantial across Europe but an increasing number of countries reported indications of declining transmission. The Swedish Institute for Infectious Disease Control (SMI) reported about two on-going measles outbreaks in two counties in Sweden, Uppsala and Stockholm. In the United Kingdom, the Health Protection Agency reported about a measles outbreak in the North-East of England. On 6 March 2013, the Ministry of Health in Saudi Arabia informed the World Health Organization (WHO) about a new confirmed case of novel coronavirus (NCoV) infection. This brings the number of confirmed cases of NCoV infections to 14 globally, including eight deaths. The ECDC communicable disease threats report is a weekly bulletin intended for epidemiologists and health professionals in the area of communicable disease prevention and control. Romania has been experiencing a large outbreak of measles since February 2016. Cases continue to be reported despite ongoing response measures implemented at national level through reinforced vaccination activities. Between 1 January 2016 and 07 July 2017, Romania reported 7 647 measles cases, including 31 deaths.Read more

Epidemiological update: Measles - monitoring European outbreaks, 7 July 2017
Romania has been experiencing a large outbreak of measles since February 2016. Cases continue to be reported despite ongoing response measures implemented at national level through reinforced vaccination activities. Between 1 January 2016 and 30 June 2017, Romania reported 7 491 measles cases, including 31 deaths. In 2016, several other EU/EEA countries reported measles outbreaks and an increase in the number of cases continues to be observed in 2017. Some previous and ongoing measles outbreaks in other EU/EEA countries have been epidemiologically linked to the current outbreak in Romania. Overall, more than 14 000 cases have been reported in the EU/EEA since January 2016, including 35 deaths.Read more
