Consultation on laboratory capacity building for malaria diagnosis in the EU/EEA
The consultation aimed to assess the needs and requirements of laboratory capacity building initiatives for malaria parasite laboratory testing in the EU/EEA.
The consultation aimed in particular to:
- collect information on the epidemiological situation of malaria in the EU/EEA;
- review the current available malaria parasite tests used in the EU/EEA and select best practices;
- define needs for laboratory capacity building initiatives and ways to address them;
- agree on an action plan for malaria laboratory capacity building in the EU/EEA.
Malaria laboratory experts and experts in external quality assessments participated in the meeting.
A satellite expert meeting was held to discuss blood donation issues: donation screening for malaria and its application for blood safety measures.
