Joint WHO/Europe–ECDC Annual European Influenza Surveillance Meeting, 2018
The joint annual influenza surveillance meeting by ECDC and the WHO Regional Office for Europe took place on 6 - 8 June 2018 in Copenhagen, Denmark. Invited participants were epidemiological and virological surveillance experts nominated by national health authorities as well as representatives from international institutions, covering the 53 countries of the EU/EEA and the WHO European region. The meeting was by invitation only.
ECDC Expert meeting on non-pharmaceutical countermeasures for Pandemic flu
The meeting focused on the evidence base for the revision of the updated “Guide to public health measures to reduce the impact of influenza pandemics in Europe”, with a specific emphasis on non-pharmaceutical countermeasures for pandemic flu.
Acute respiratory pandemics: how to plan for and manage
This practical course will cover outbreak investigation, pandemic planning, recent developments in respiratory pathogen biology and therapy, and will focus around two practical scenarios in which participants will gain experience in managing an acute epidemic. Research during an epidemic and ethical aspects will also be covered.

The European Scientific Working group on Influenza (ESWI) is a network organisation of stakeholders with a mission to reduce the burden of influenza in Europe. It holds regular conferences that have become the largest European scientific forums dedicated to influenza.

Following a meeting of the global influenza collaborating centres in Beijing hosted by the newest Centre that in China the World Health Organization (WHO) recently recommended that influenza vaccines to be used in the 2013 Southern Hemisphere (SH) influenza season should contain the same three strains as the vaccines that now are being used in the Northern Hemisphere (NH).
