ECDC rapid risk assessment: Human cases of swine influenza without apparent exposure to pigs, United States and Mexico
On April 21, the United States reported on the existence of 2 human cases of swine influenza A (H1N1) infection. On 23 April, through intensified surveillance efforts, a total of 7 confirmed human cases of swine influenza A (H1N1) infection, were reported.

Generally, reporting of influenza has been less complete over weeks 51 and 52 due to the holiday period, which reduces consulting rates and reporting to national centres and subsequently onto ECDC. Nevertheless, in week 52/2010, 15 of the 25 countries reported increasing trends of influenza activity.
Weekly influenza surveillance overview, March 23, 2012 - Week 11
During week 11/2012, medium intensity was reported in 16 countries, high intensity in one country, and decreasing trends in 15 countries.

This report which is part of the RAGIDA project (Risk Assessment Guidance for Infectious Diseases transmitted on Aircraft) provides viable options for decision-makers when faced with the choice of whether to contact trace air travellers and crew that were potentially exposed to infectious diseases during a flight.
