EU/EEA capacity for the surveillance of hepatitis B and C using molecular methods
In order to explore whether the current capacity for EU/EEA-wide molecular characterisation for surveillance of HBV and HCV is sufficient to be feasible and what gaps need to be addressed, a survey of EU/EEA Member States was conducted to assess their laboratory capacity and needs in relation to the molecular characterisation of hepatitis B and C.

This report is based on surveillance data reported to TESSy for 1 December 2016 to 30 November 2017. ECDC also monitors European measles outbreaks through epidemic intelligence and publishes the most recent updates monthly in the Communicable Disease Threats Report (CDTR).

ECDC country visit to Spain to discuss antimicrobial resistance issues
On 15-19 February 2016 an ECDC team conducted visits and meetings to discuss AMR issues in Spain, with the overall objective of providing an evidence-based assessment of the situation in Spain. The AMR situation in Spain poses a major public health threat to the country. Antimicrobial consumption in primary care and hospitals is among the highest in the EU/EEA and infection prevention and control and environmental cleaning measures vary significantly among hospitals and units.

ECDC/EFSA joint report: Avian influenza overview September – November 2017
Between 1 September and 15 November 2017, 48 A(H5N8) highly pathogenic avian influenza (HPAI) outbreaks in poultry holdings and 9 H5 HPAI wild bird events were reported within Europe. A second epidemic HPAI A(H5N8) wave started in Italy on the third week of July and is still ongoing on 15 November 2017.
