Rapid risk assessments (RRA) are undertaken in the initial stages of an event or incident of potential public health concern while more comprehensive risk assessments, which often include the conduct of full systematic reviews, are produced at a later stage of an event, usually when more time and information are available.

This report presents the results of the eighth round of the external quality assessment (EQA-8) scheme for typing of Shiga toxin-producing Escherichia coli (STEC) organised for laboratories providing data to the Food- and Waterborne Diseases and Zoonoses Network (FWD-Net) managed by the European Centre for Disease Prevention and Control (ECDC).

External quality assessments (EQAs) are important instruments in assessing the quality of the generated data that are reported nationally and internationally through The European Surveillance System (TESSy).

The HIV Estimates Accuracy Tool is an R-based application that uses statistical methods to allow for adjusted estimates from HIV surveillance data taking into account the issues of missing data and reporting delay. While it does not replace the knowledge of data analysis with adjustments, it is intended for routine application in surveillance as no complex programming skills are needed.
