Tularaemia - Annual Epidemiological Report for 2017
For 2017, 447 cases of tularaemia were reported by 18 countries in the EU/EEA, 413 (92%) of which were confirmed. As in previous years, the proportion of cases among males was higher in all age groups, with a male-to-female ratio of 2.1:1. Notification rates in men and women increased with age (except for the age group ≥65 years). The highest rate was observed in men in the age group 45–64 years (0.2 cases per 100 000 population).

This issue of the ECDC Communicable Disease Threats Report (CDTR) is a weekly bulletin for epidemiologists and health professionals on active public health threats covers the period from 23-29 June 2019 and includes updates on chikungunya and dengue, Ebola virus disease, monitoring the environmental suitability of Vibrio growth in the Baltic Sea, West Nile virus infection, suspected cases of chikungunya virus disease not confirmed by further testing in Spain and acute neurological syndrome in Peru.
Congenital toxoplasmosis – Annual Epidemiological Report for 2016
In 2016, 242 confirmed cases of congenital toxoplasmosis were reported in the EU/EEA, with France accounting for 81% of all confirmed cases due to the active screening of pregnant women. The notification rate was 6.7 cases per 100 000 live births. No seasonal pattern was observed for the disease.
Brucellosis – Annual Epidemiological Report for 2017
In 2017, 381 confirmed brucellosis cases were reported in the EU/EEA. The notification rate in the EU/EEA was 0.09 cases per 100 000 population. The highest rates were reported in southern EU Member States (Greece, Italy and Portugal). The highest rate was observed in 25–44-year-old males (0.16 per 100 000). The notification rate was stable from 2013–2017 in the EU/EEA.
Giardiasis (lambliasis) - Annual Epidemiological Report for 2017
In 2017, 19 437 confirmed giardiasis cases were reported in the EU/EEA.
Multi-country outbreak of Listeria monocytogenes clonal complex 8 infections linked to consumption of cold-smoked fish products
This joint ECDC-EFSA rapid outbreak assessment provides an assessment of the cross-border public health risk related to L. monocytogenes infections linked to the consumption of cold-smoked fish products, possibly originating from a single food processing company.
Collection and analysis of whole genome sequencing data from food-borne pathogens and other relevant microorganisms isolated from human, animal, food, feed and food/feed environmental samples in the joint ECDC–EFSA molecular typing database
This report identifies and compares potential platforms/solutions for the set-up and running of a joint ECDC–EFSA database to collect and analyse whole genome sequencing (WGS) data for Listeria monocytogenes, Salmonella and Escherichia coli. In particular, WGS introduces the need for specific components for storage and analysis of these data.
Third external quality assessment on species identification and antimicrobial susceptibility testing of Campylobacter, 2017
This report presents the results of the third round of the EQA on AST for national public health laboratories for Campylobacter (Campylobacter EQA3-AST) within the Food- and Waterborne Diseases and Zoonoses Network (FWD-Net).
