Despite the fact that the Zika virus epidemic in the Americas and the Caribbean is showing signs of a significant slow-down, Member States should continue to consider a range of options for risk reduction, as advised in the ECDC risk assessment.

There is now a strong consensus in the scientific community about the link between Zika infection and congenital malformations, as well as developing Guillain–Barré (GBS) syndrome.
