A poster presented by Austria at the IV Joint EC /ECDC /WHO Workshop on Pandemic Influenza Preparedness in Luxembourg in September 2007 describes preparations and outcomes from Austria’s first national pandemic preparedness exercise. The objectives of the exercise were the evaluation of the communication both between the Ministry of Health and the nine regional health boards and the other involved ministries the general preparedness for an influenza pandemic in Austria the interoperability of the regional plans.

Cross government exercise in the UK Winter Willow.This very large scale exercise involved all the regions of the country. It revelaled a number of unexpected issues including the availability of antibiotics and difficulties in coping with a sudden rise in the numbers of deaths. A ‘lessons learnt’ publication followed.
