External quality assessment (EQA) is a system designed to objectively assess the quality of test results reported by a laboratory through an external actor (i.e. EQA provider) and provide feedback to improve performance. It allows for a performance comparison of a laboratory’s diagnostic workflows with that of a peer group of laboratories and/or a reference laboratory.
