Gulf Health Council and Gulf CDC visit ECDC

On Monday 2 June 2025, ECDC welcomed a delegation from the Gulf Health Council and the Gulf Centre for Disease Prevention and Control (CDC).

The delegation was led by H.E. Mr Sulaiman Al-Dakheel, General Manager of the Gulf Health Council, and included Mr Mohammad Al Rakban, Director of the Strategic Planning & Projects Department, Gulf Health Council, Mr Sami Almudarra, Director of the Health Information Department, Gulf CDC, Ms Lubna Al Ariqi, Director of the Public Health Emergency Department, Gulf CDC, and Dr Maarit Hannele Kokki, Consultant for the Gulf Health Council. 

During the visit, discussions covered key health security areas such as public health emergency preparedness and response, surveillance and epidemic intelligence as well as scientific priorities and scientific evidence. Discussions also addressed strengthening the partnership between ECDC and Gulf CDC. Both parties expressed their intention to formalise their partnership and deepen collaboration towards global health security.

ECDC has collaborated with Gulf CDC since 2022 to strengthen global health security, including exchanges on surveillance, information knowledge management and Emergency Operations Centre (EOC) development.  

ECDC collaborates with centres for disease prevention and control beyond the EU at both regional and national levels as part of its long-term strategy to enhance international cooperation and coordination in addressing cross-border health threats.

ECDC cooperates with international partners, such as the World Health Organization and the centres for disease control and prevention (CDCs) across the globe.
