Joint Meeting of the National Focal Points for Preparedness and Response and for Threat Detection, EWRS and IHR
Representatives from European Union (EU), European Economic Area (EEA) and EU enlargement public health authorities, ECDC and other international organisations meet in Stockholm to discuss a range of current topics relevant for effective preparedness and response to infectious diseases outbreaks and for strengthening collaboration.
Meeting of ECDC Focal Points in the global Centres for Disease Control
On the 3rd of June 2019, the first meeting of ECDC Focal Points in the global Centres for Disease Control will take place in Stockholm, Sweden. The overall aim of this meeting is to discuss ways on how we can enhance global cooperation in the area of communicable diseases prevention and control to enable sharing of best practices and expertise, as well as to provide a platform for coordination, exchange of views, and planning of future collaboration between the global Centres for Disease Control (CDCs). The outcome of the meeting is expected to be an agreed way forward for future global CDCs collaboration, including meeting organisation and possible topics to be addressed jointly.
Annual meeting of the Technical Advisory Committee for the European Antibiotic Awareness day (EAAD)
The EAAD Technical Advisory Committee (TAC) provides technical advice and the strategic direction for EAAD. The Committee consists of one representative from each EU/EEA country who is specialised in either antimicrobial resistance (AMR), healthcare-associated infections (HAIs), and/or communication. The European Commission (DG Health and Food Safety) and the WHO Regional Office for Europe are also invited to the meeting, as well as representatives from European professional organisations. The TAC meets once a year and is chaired by Pr. Herman Goossens. In 2019 the meeting will be held in Stockholm on 22 - 24 May.
World Hand Hygiene Day 2019
Each year on 5 May, the “SAVE LIVES: Clean Your Hands” campaign takes place as part of a major global effort led by the World Health Organization (WHO) to improve hand hygiene in healthcare settings.
Keynote by ECDC Director Andrea Ammon at the IANPHI European Directors meeting
In a keynote speech in the “Vaccination in Europe” session at the IANPHI European Directors meeting on 8 April 2019, ECDC Director Andrea Ammon outlined the current challenges in the area of vaccination and how EU-level policies and programmes can help tackle the situation.
Expert consultation meeting: Developing a training course on vaccine acceptance
Vaccine acceptance and dealing with vaccine hesitancy is increasingly a topic of concern, and empowering frontline healthcare professionals to deal with this challenge is vitally needed at this time. At the beginning of 2019, vaccine hesitancy was included in the top 10 health threats of this year for WHO. In order to improve the skills of European health professionals working in healthcare and public health in addressing the doubts and concerns of patients regarding vaccination, ECDC is convening an expert consultation meeting during 11-12 April 2019. This meeting will inform the development of a training course on vaccine acceptance.
ECDC Summer School 2019
The ECDC Summer School is organised yearly for experts within the ECDC networks with the aim to build EU/EEA Member States’ public health capacity in the area of communicable diseases. Every year meaningful topics are selected based on Member States’ identified needs. The Summer School provides an opportunity for networking and scientific exchange.
ECDC Expert consultation on community engagement in public health emergency preparedness
The expert consultation meeting organised by ECDC seeks to identify enabling factors and barriers to good practice in community engagement in the context of public health emergency preparedness. Outcomes of this meeting will inform the development of an ECDC guidance on the topic.
