This course was recommended for public health professionals involved in the planning, development, commissioning and/or approval of scientific outputs like reviews, assessments or guidance in the area of infectious disease epidemiology, prevention and control. Over the four days, the participants were expected to learn the basic skills and competences needed for evidence-based practice.

The course covered all steps from the question to searching and selecting research and grey evidence, critical appraisal and risk of bias, assessment of single studies of different study type, to extraction and analysis, including meta-analysis, as well as the assessment of a body of evidence to draw conclusions and develop recommendations from.

The participants worked in small groups and presented the results of their work on the last day of the training.
