European Antibiotic Awareness Day 2014: Stakeholder Event
ECDC organised a EU-level launch event in Stockholm (on invitation only) on the 17 November in Stockholm.

European Antibiotic Awareness Day is a European health initiative coordinated by the European Centre for Disease Prevention and Control (ECDC) which aims to provide a platform and support for national campaigns about prudent antibiotic use. European Antibiotic Awareness Day is marked each year on or around 18 November.
In 2014, European Antibiotic Awareness Day emphasised that “Everyone is responsible, everywhere” for the prudent use of antibiotics to stress that antibiotic resistance is truly a global threat to public health. ECDC also prepared template material to support countries in their efforts to promote appropriate use of antibiotics and inform patients about the risks of self-medication with antibiotics. ECDC will organise a EU-level launch event (on invitation only) on 17 November in Stockholm.
The event will be divided in two sessions. The first session will include a series of presentations while the second session will provide an opportunity for various stakeholders to discuss how their organisation is responding to the antibiotic challenge.
Speakers for the first session will include Marc Sprenger (ECDC Director), John Ryan (European Commission, DG SANCO), Elizabeth S. Dodds Ashley, (University of Rochester Medical Center), Kees de Joncheere (WHO), Johan Carlson (Public Health Agency of Sweden).
Furthermore, during the second session, representatives from organisations such as the Pharmaceutical Group of the EU (PGEU), the Standing Committee of European Doctors (CPME), ReAct – Action on Antibiotic Resistance, Copa-Cogeca and the Federation of the Veterinarians of Europe (FVE) will make short opening statements about the work that their organisations are doing to support the efforts against antimicrobial resistance in Europe.
