Hepatitis B is a major public health threat worldwide. In 2022, the global prevalence was estimated at 257 million people living with HBV infection (3.2%), with an estimated incidence of 1.5 million new cases per year. In 2019, 820 000 deaths were attributable to hepatitis B globally. In the European Union/European Economic Area (EU/EEA), the disease burden remains high, with an estimated 3.6 million people living with CHB and 64 000 deaths attributed to chronic viral hepatitis in 2015.
