Joint technical mission: HIV in Greece

Risk assessment

Since the beginning of 2011, Greece has been facing a significant outbreak of HIV among people who inject drugs in Athens. Following an invitation from Greek authorities, a team of experts from ECDC, the European Monitoring Centre for Drugs and Drug Addiction (EMCDDA) and the WHO Regional Office for Europe visited Greece in May 2012. The European Union Agency for Fundamental Rights (FRA) joined the mission as observers. The information gathered during this joint mission also provided input for an in-depth ECDC risk assessment on the HIV situation in Greece published in 2012.
