​In view of new evidence, ECDC has updated its rapid risk assessment on the potential risk of invasive cardiovascular infection by M. chimaera associated with the use of heater-cooler units. Since 2011, cases of invasive cardiovascular infection caused by M. chimaera have been reported in patients who had previously undergone open-heart surgery using heater-cooler units in seven EU/EEA countries.
