West Nile fever in Europe in 2017; updated 11 August
Between 2 August and 10 August, 15 cases were reported in Greece in a previous affected area. Romania and Serbia reported their first cases of the year. Romania reported one confirmed case, in the South-East of the country. Two confirmed cases were reported by Serbia.
Two cases in Greece died since the beginning of 2017.
Eight West Nile fever Equidae cases were notified through the Animal Disease Notification System (ADNS) of the European Commission; all in Italy, two in Venezia and six in Padova.
Since the beginning of the 2017 transmission season and as of 10 August 2017, 20 human cases of West Nile fever (three confirmed and 17 probable) have been reported by Greece, and one confirmed case has been reported by Italy. Romania reported one case. In the neighbouring countries, six cases have been reported; four by Israel, two by Serbia.
