This document outlines the objectives and main elements of the ECDC framework for prevention of communicable diseases and related special health issues.
ECDC has developed a new framework for the prevention of infectious diseases, which is based on social and behavioural sciences, health promotion, health literacy and health education, and which provides an extra focus on socio-economic risk factors.
The prevention of infectious diseases involves the implementation of interventions, either at population or individual level, which aim to prevent outbreaks and halt or minimise the burden of these diseases.
