This literature review answers a series of questions on the prevalence of chronic HBV and HCV infection in the general EU population, the number of individuals with chronic HBV or HCV infection, and current national practices for screening for chronic HBV and HCV infection, all with the overarching goal of promoting national and European policies on the secondary prevention of these two diseases.
This Reporting Protocol describes data collection for influenza, COVID-19, and other respiratory viruses (such as RSV or new viruses of public health concern) in the EU/EEA and wider WHO European Region. Data collection is integrated for most datasets in line with the operational considerations for respiratory virus surveillance in Europe.
In 2014, 6 125 confirmed cases of shigellosis were reported in the EU/EEA (Table 1). The overall EU/EEA notification rate for confirmed shigellosis cases has slowly declined in the past five years.
This long-term vision and strategy on the future surveillance of communicable diseases in the EU has been developed to help direct the decisions for the long-term development of the European surveillance system.
This literature review has been conducted by ECDC as a part of a 18-month project entitled Training Needs Assessment of EU/EEA countries (TRNA) carried out between June 2014 and December 2015.
