Today ECDC is providing an update on the current status of COVID-19 transmission in the European Union and European Economic Area (EU/EEA), the emergence of new SARS-CoV-2 variants, and public health considerations for Autumn 2023.
This document outlines the public health considerations for the use of self-tests to detect SARS-CoV-2 by public health authorities in the European Union/European Economic Area (EU/EEA). Only rapid antigen detection tests (RADTs) for self-testing for direct detection of SARS-CoV-2 virus particles in infectious individuals are considered within this document.
This report provides updated 30-day projections, together with the inherent model assumptions and uncertainties. Both the model projections and the data to which the model is calibrated should be interpreted with caution given the differences between national surveillance systems, case definitions and testing policies. Comparisons between countries based on the data and forecasts presented in this paper should only be made with extreme caution and should take these differences into account. Nonetheless, the projections presented here illustrate potential future trends in COVID-19 transmission in EU/EEA countries and the UK.
In an effort to continuously improve its performance, the Centre commissioned an external assessment of its response to the COVID-19 pandemic for the period January - September 2020. The report was presented to ECDC Management Board meeting 25 November 2020 with specific focus on its 26 recommendations, and is currently used as a basis for an action plan defined by ECDC management.
