In 2022, 23 273 cases of hepatitis C were reported in 29 EU/EEA countries. Excluding countries that only reported acute cases, 23 249 cases were notified, corresponding to a crude rate of 6.2 cases per 100 000 population.
For 2022, 70 881 confirmed cases of gonorrhoea were reported in 28 EU/EEA countries, with a crude notification rate of 17.9 cases per 100 000 population.
The prevention of infectious diseases involves the implementation of interventions, either at population or individual level, which aim to prevent outbreaks and halt or minimise the burden of these diseases.
This joint guidance by the ECDC and EMCDDA aims to strengthen the evidence base for developing national strategies for preventing and controlling infections and infectious diseases among people who inject drugs.
