Today, a joint Africa CDC – ECDC meeting will be held to share unique experiences, successes and lesson learnt on field epidemiology training programmes and other relevant workforce development initiatives. Participants include ECDC and Africa CDC staff, as well as representatives from public health authorities in Europe and Africa.

The virtual meeting will enable the sharing of experiences and discuss lessons learned from the collaboration among networks, regional programmes such as the ECDC Fellowship (EPIET/EUPHEM) and national programmes. National and regional perspectives will be discussed, with emphasis on best practices, successes, challenges and lessons learned. The meeting will also explore Africa’s CDC aspirations for technical support and the coordination of field epidemiology training programmes in Africa. This will guide the next steps in terms of Africa CDC’s technical support and coordination to such programmes.

This event is part of the EU for health security in Africa: ECDC 4 Africa CDC initiative – a four-year capacity and partnership building project aimed at supporting the implementation of Africa CDC’s public health workforce development strategy, and strengthen Africa CDC capacities in preparedness and response to health threats, and facilitate harmonised surveillance and disease intelligence of prioritised outbreak-prone communicable diseases at continental level.
