The focus of the 2011 conference was on the economic and societal value of vaccination, risk perception and vaccination as an informed choice, and monitoring of vaccination programmes. An overall vision on these topics was provided for professional workers involved in immunisation activities in European countries.
The conference brought together international experts in the field of vaccinology to provide a platform for information and practice exchange among professionals working in the fields of regulation, policy, implementation, monitoring and evaluation of immunisation activities in European countries.
Keynote speeches was presented by Professor David Salisbury (Director of Immunisation, Department of Health, London, United Kingdom), Dr Darina O'Flanaghan (Director Health Protection Surveillance Centre, Ireland) and Stefania Salmaso (Director of the National Center for Epidemiology, Surveillance and Health Promotion Istituto Superiore di Sanità, Rome, Italy).
In addition, there was live discussion with a panel of European experts Mircea Ioan POPA, MD, PhD, MPH, Professor (“Carol Davila” University of Medicine and Pharmacy, Bucharest, Romania), Miriam Wiese-Posselt, MD MPH (Immunization Unit, Robert-Koch-Institute, Germany), Hanna Nohynek, MD PhD (Senior scientist, Head safety officer, Finland), Paolo Bonanni, MD, Professor (Full Professor of Hygiene and Public Health Director, Specialization School in Hygiene and Preventive Medicine University of Florence, Italy) and Dr Rudi Eggers (Team leader in “Immunization Services Strengthening” WHO Headquarters, Geneva, Switzerland). The panel of experts also answered the questions raised by the audience.
This year's edition was largely web-based and fully webcasted. It was possible to follow the conference live via webcast and raise questions to experts on-line.
This was the third consecutive year that Eurovaccine - a European conference on vaccination and immunisation is organised and fully funded by the European Centre for Disease Prevention and Control. It was established as a regular industry-independent European conference on developments in the field of vaccines and immunisation from a public health point of view. The aim of these conferences is to provide a platform for information and practice exchange between professionals working in the fields of regulation, policy, implementation, monitoring and evaluation of immunisation activities in European countries.
