Keynote by ECDC Director Andrea Ammon at the IANPHI European Directors meeting
In a keynote speech in the “Vaccination in Europe” session at the IANPHI European Directors meeting on 8 April 2019, ECDC Director Andrea Ammon outlined the current challenges in the area of vaccination and how EU-level policies and programmes can help tackle the situation. Particularly the recently adopted Council Recommendation on strengthened cooperation against vaccine-preventable diseases will enable the EU to move forward more actively and in a coordinated way.
IANPHI, the International Association of National Public Health Institutes, links and strengthens the government agencies responsible for public health. Since 2006, IANPHI has supported the European NPHI Directors meetings, which are hosted by member national public health institutes and provide opportunities for directors to gather and exchange information, discuss health topics of interest to the region, and network to build and strengthen partnerships between NPHIs. This year, the European NPHI Directors meeting is hosted in Chisinau, Moldova by the National Agency for Public Health of the Republic of Moldova.
