The annual meeting of VectorNet, the European Network for collecting data on vectors, gathered 70 experts in medical and veterinarian entomology and public and animal health from Europe and countries around the Mediterranean Basin.

The overall objective of the meeting was to present the activities within the project, since its start in 2014, as well as the plans for next period: 2016, the discussions focused in particular on the strategy of entomological field collection for 2016 and the presentation and review of the enhanced Vector-Net tool.

VectorNet is an initiative jointly funded by the European Centre for Disease Prevention and Control (ECDC, Stockholm, Sweden) and the European Food and Safety Authority (EFSA, Parma, Italy).

Within the project a network of experts, supported by ECDC and EFSA, maintains a database with data on the geographic distribution of important vectors for European and Mediterranean countries, and disseminates this data through the publication of a series of distribution maps of the main vectors in Europe, on a quarterly basis.
