​The main objective of this protocol is to ensure the standardised collection and reporting of data on healthcare-associated infections (HAIs) in intensive care units (ICUs) across Europe which contribute to the EU surveillance of HAIs. The protocol aims at describing methods for the participating ICUs and the national coordinating centres for the surveillance of healthcare-associated infections.

This is version 1.02 of the HAI-Net ICU protocol. Differences between versions 1.01 (December 2010) and 1.02 are purely editorial.
