Since 16 May 2022, and as of 4 April 2023, 21 170 cases of mpox (formerly known as monkeypox) have been reported by countries within the European Union/European Economic Area (EU/EEA).

The report Public health considerations for mpox in EU/EEA countries, released today by the European Centre for Disease Prevention and Control (ECDC), sets out a number of considerations for public health authorities in areas such as vaccination, surveillance, testing, contact tracing and risk communication.
Following a peak at week 51/2022, influenza activity had been decreasing across the Region until week 4/2023, before rising again to fluctuate around 25% positivity between weeks 6 and 11/2023 and decreasing again to 15% positivity for week 14/2023.
