ECDC is helping countries in the Western Balkans and Türkiye to improve their infectious disease prevention and control systems and public health workforce in order to prepare them for their future participation in ECDC work.
Lymphogranuloma venereum (LGV) is a systemic sexually transmitted infection (STI) caused by Chlamydia trachomatis serovars L1, L2, or L3. In 2021, 1 124 cases of LGV were reported by 23 EU/EEA Member States.
ECDC cooperates with international partners, such as the World Health Organization and the centres for disease control and prevention (CDCs) across the globe.
ECDC also cooperates with EU candidate countries, potential candidate countries, and European Neighbourhood Policy (ENP) countries.
From 23–26 April 2024, experts from the European Centre for Disease Prevention and Control (ECDC) and the African Centres for Disease Control and Prevention (Africa CDC) met in Stockholm, Sweden, to exchange expertise on surveillance, data management and epidemic intelligence.

ECDC works together with the institutions and agencies of the EU, in particular the European Commission’s Directorate-General for Health and Food Safety (DG SANTE), the European Food Safety Authority (EFSA), the European Medicines Agency (EMA), and the European Monitoring Centre for Drugs and Drug Addiction (EMCDDA).
For 2021, 27 EU/EEA Member States reported 184 542 confirmed cases of chlamydia infection. The crude notification rate was 74 cases per 100 000 population.
