HERA Conference 2023 – Is the EU better prepared?
On 5 December, the Health Emergency Preparedness and Response Authority (HERA) held a conference in Brussels that focused on preparedness.
Dr. Andrea Ammon participated in panel 3, “Better global epidemic intelligence – are we there?”. Dr. Ammon talked about ECDC's epidemic intelligence work. The strengthened mandate highlights the crucial role of ECDC in detecting, assessing, and responding to threats.
HERA was established as a direct consequence of the lessons learned from the initial management of the COVID-19 pandemic, to ensure a solid Union response to serious-cross border health threats and secure ready availability and accessibility of medical countermeasures.
On 14 March 2023, HERA signed an agreement with ECDC and with EMA to strengthen cooperation on health emergency preparedness and response.
