In light of the 2009 pandemic and experiences gained, a number of countries have evaluated their response to the pandemic.

In light of the 2009 pandemic and experiences gained, a number of countries have evaluated their response to the pandemic. To continue supporting these efforts, distil best practices from the lessons learned and to guide what best should be undertaken at the national and European level in the next 18 months (to the end of 2012), a series of regional workshops have been arranged jointly between ECDC and WHO/Europe.

This series will take place in September 2011. The purpose of the workshops is to provide national experts from EU/EEA as well as EU Candidate and Potential Candidate Countries, with a broad understanding of the results of the national and international pandemic evaluations. The workshops allow also to discuss future needs for revising national pandemic plans, to deal with some specific areas, to work out how MS can support each other and to guide ECDC and WHO Regional Office for Europe on what to best do in the next 18 months.Objectives1. To share the outcomes, implementation and intelligence concerning:• national pandemic evaluations in Europe;• the WHO IHR review (Fineberg); • other evaluations of pandemic response (WHO European region, EU and ECDC);2. To review progress on revising national pandemic plans and devise methods of countries working together;3. To review a revised set of European pandemic preparedness indicators in light of lessons learned from the 2009 pandemic4. To provide input for future ECDC, European Commission (EC) and WHO/Europe pandemic preparedness strategy and specifically to guide them on priorities for 2012 and beyond.
