Due to the arrival of  refugees in Greece, ECDC, the European Commission and Greek authorities continue to closely monitor the situation to rapidly identify and assess potential public health threats related to communicable diseases.

Following the request of the Greek authorities, an ECDC senior expert has been in the field to work together with the Greek authorities to review the risk assessment for communicable diseases on the basis of the current situation. This ECDC senior expert also supported the revision of the protocol for syndromic surveillance in the field and advise on response procedures and priority settings. This visit also served to work with the Greek authorities to put a plan in place.

ECDC funding regulation (Article 9.2) provides that ECDC might be requested by the Commission, the EU Member States, non-EU countries and international organisations to provide scientific advice or technical assistance in any field within its mission.
